2021-2022 Plan to Flearn while following the safety rules set up by the district

Safety continues to be one of the primary part of the Chinook Creativity Lab (CCB), where students use woodworking tools, hot glue guns, chemicals and occasionally power tools.   With Covid the CCB has a plan to both meet the KSD guidelines and still be able to return to a hands-on learning environment.  There are some changes required to make this happen.

1. Masks are still to be worn, however each student will be issued a face shield (that they will keep in their CCB lockers). It is almost impossible to have a mask and wear safety glasses without them fogging up, so the face shields are being used.   These face shields are not ANSI approved safety glasses, but will work as a reasonable level of protection for hand tools.  If using a powertool, then a clean ANSI face shield will be provided.
2. Students will have assigned seats and have the same partner for the quarter, and these partners will share the same Lab locker.   Usually students pick where they sit and can change partners with each FLEARN unit and I promise the instant that we are allowed to do that, we will return to a less structured seating arrangement and more flexibility for the students.    By doing this we can have two students working together and minimizing exposure in the classroom.
3. Each pair of students will have at the table a tool rack with tools at their table.  Usually students have to share tools from the tool cart for the classroom.  Now each table which four students sit at has two sets of the handtools.  Mr. Brager designed and built the tool storage stands so they can be moved out of the way.  At the time of clean up we will have one student put the materials in the locker and the other student of each team remove the dust from the table, then wipe the handles of each tool, then table top, then chairs.
4. Hand sanitizer is available in a couple of places in the room.   Also there is a sink where students can wash their hands.
5. I am sure that as I get more information that more rules will be required.  The goal is to have the least number of rules while still meeting the required KSD Covid rules and provide the safest and most fun learning environment.
